NYC - CHAPTER 33 - BUILDING CODE

Adopted rule summary:

Local Law 163 of 2021 (LL163) added a new section 3307.11 regarding artwork on temporary protective structures to Chapter 33 of the Building Code. LL 163 provides a process for building owners to display artwork on temporary protective structures. LL 163 also sets out the requirements for installing such artwork that is approved by the Department of Cultural Affairs. A new section 3307-01 is added to Chapter 3300 to address the requirements of the law and set out procedures for notification and installation of artwork on temporary structures.

Effective since September 1st, 2023, this legislation requires sidewalk sheds, construction fences, and supported scaffolds to have building wraps with artwork to protect the integrity and aesthetic of the city. For more information please visit the following LINK.

At The Print Project, we adopt a consultative approach to guide you through these new city requirements, whilst offering assistance in designing your wraps, either in-house or in collaboration with a local artist, as well as managing the printing and installation of the building wraps.

As a New York based organization, proud to be a creative force in public art and a trusted partner in large format wraps, The Print Project fully supports and celebrates Local Law 163. We believe this rule will play a vital role in enhancing New York’s public spaces, city scenery, and contributing to the aesthetics and integrity of temporal structures in the city.
